More about the belt, etiquette

Belt etiquette for the martial artists

In one of my other post I explained how and why the karate Gi and belt are worn correctly. To follow up on that I feel that I should also mention a few do’s and don’t as well.

• You should never touch someone’s black belt, it is considered rude.
• You should not face a black belt when tying your belt.
• You should not face the front of the dojo while tying your belt.
• It is considered rude to wear your belt outside the dojo (while going to or from class, while in public places you should carry you belt).
• You should not allow your belt to drag on the floor while putting it on or removing it.
• You wash your Gi, but not your belt.
